Overview of Bridge

The Ponte de la Maddalena was built primarily using Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria. It crosses the Rio de S. Sebastian e S. Basegio bridging a gap which is 10.06 meters. The bridge is not a crooked bridge. On the northern side of the bridge is the sestiere of Dorsoduro and on the southern side is also Dorsoduro .There are 2 ramps. On the north side there are 7 steps, on the south side there are 9 steps. This results in a total of 16 steps. The height of a typical step is 3.75 meters, the thickness of a step is about 38.7 centimeters, and the width of a step is about 2.28 meters.The steps are paved with Asfalto. The bridge is not handicapped accessible and it does not have an additional railing. The summit is 3.75 meters wide and 4.18 meters in length for a total area of about 15.68 meters. The summit is paved with Asfalto. Also, this bridge has 1 arch. The bridge's Piena railing is made of Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria and is about 27.00 meters wide is about 0.98 meters tall. Finally, the bridge protrudes 0.35 meters to the North and 0.2 meters to the South.


History

The following is any history we have regarding the bridge's origins:

�Angel Raphael. At this bridge still exists a hospice for seven old with adjoining sacred oratorio in S. Mary Magdalene. The hospice that was really founded in 1361 by two brothers Gabriel and Luciano Prior, the second of which, by his will 27 May 1376, in acts of Peter Corrosatis, rector of St. Barnabas, constituted all his goods supplied to the hospice same, ordering a special purpose Commissioner, consisting of six people, who thereafter were reduced to four, and finally to one with a prosecutor. In ancient times, the hospice was intended to ricettar poor, and a seven-poor, widows or maidens. Since then for a long time commissioners and agents in the place were the pious Corner by S.
