## Overview of Bridge

The Ponte de le Balote , constructed in 1725, was built primarily using Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria. It crosses the Rio de S. Salvador bridging a gap which is 7.58 meters. The bridge is not a crooked bridge. On the northern side of the bridge is the sestiere of San Marco and on the southern side is also San Marco .There are 2 ramps. On the north side there are 9 steps, on the south side there are 11 steps. This results in a total of 20 steps. The height of a typical step is 14 meters, the thickness of a step is about 46 centimeters, and the width of a step is about 1.4 meters.The steps are paved with Trachite. The bridge is not handicapped accessible and it does not have an additional railing. The summit is 3.11 meters wide and 2.57 meters in length for a total area of about 7.99 meters. The summit is paved with Trachite. Also, this bridge has 1 arch. The bridge's Vuoto Decorato railing is made of Metallo and is about 3.50 meters wide is about 0.93 meters tall. Finally, the bridge protrudes 0.1 meters to the North and 0.65 meters to the South.

## History

The following is any history we have regarding the bridge's origins:

to S. Savior. We find in the \Rasps� dell'Avogaria, that a \Mary in Ballotis,\ by S. Salvatore, obtained April 10, 1424 the cancellation of a sentence imposed by judgment of 18 March 1422, by the Magistrate of Mobile. She could be \the ballotte� surname, or be so called because it manufactured them, or sell the \ballotte,\ or bullets, attendants vote. Report Leonico Goldioni, an anagram of Nicholas Doglioni, in his \Things Notables et marvelous city of Venetia,\ that in 1283 the 'Great Council ballotte pel' were made of wax, but because some was left attached to the cartridge cases, it was ordered that did the linen cloth. The Gallicciolli (\Memoirs Venetian\) then found written, that the nuns of S. Jerome had, in 1421, 100 ducats, and another 50 in 1481, and this for the fabbricar \ballotte 'for the use of the Great Council.\nAt the foot of the \Bridge ballotte,\ the wall of a house, scorgesi the weapon Tron in mosaic, with inscription, from which we learn that the house was left in 1523 by Antonio Tron procurator of S. Marco dei Mercanti at the school.
