Overview of Bridge
The Ponte dei Barcaroli , constructed in 1500, was built primarily using Mattoni e Pietra d'Istria. It crosses the Rio dei Barcaroli bridging a gap which is 6.95 meters. The bridge is not a crooked bridge. On the northern side of the bridge is the sestiere of San Marco and on the southern side is also San Marco .There are 2 ramps. On the north side there are 12 steps, on the south side there are 11 steps. This results in a total of 23 steps. The height of a typical step is 13 meters, the thickness of a step is about 50 centimeters, and the width of a step is about 1.7 meters.The steps are paved with Trachite. The bridge is not handicapped accessible and it does not have an additional railing. The summit is 2.38 meters wide and 3.75 meters in length for a total area of about 8.93 meters. In ancient times, this bridge was called \the Cuoridoro\ for a workshop by \cuoridoro,\ remembered, however, from the name of a next Sottoportico, and of a future Court. See Cuoridoro (Sottoportico and Court). Thereafter chiamossi 'dei Barcaroli \for the stations of gondolas, which also exists nowadays in this situation.\nNot far from the \Ponte dei Barcaroli\ in the house at No. A. , 1827, died December 23, 1851 the poet Luigi Carrer.
